FCS customizes our qualification programs to our customer needs. Every FCS technical employee has successfully qualified at multiple facilities. This experience gives us experience with what works and what does not.
We start by visiting your site to outline each employee’s requisite skills, typically on a system basis to develop Job Performance Measures (JPMs). The development of JPMs provides a “level playing field” of expectations for attempting qualification. This eliminates qualification bias and establishes standards for qualification. While we will always follow our customer’s wants and needs, a typical JPMs may be in the following format:
Section 1: Prerequisites – Items that must be proven complete prior to the trainee attempting the JPM. Items may include completion of On-the-Job (OJT) training, qualification as Outside Operator (for Control Room qualification), safety training, etc.
Section 2: Knowledge Requirements – Demonstrate, from memory (if appropriate) the trainees knowledge. Items may include drawing block diagrams or describing the function of major pieces of equipment.
Section 3: Performance Requirements – Requires the trainee to demonstrate their proficiency in locating, describing and (if appropriate) operating the system as if they were qualified, all while under the tutelage of a qualified operator.
Once the trainee has satisfactorily completed the JPM, appropriate administrative documentation is provided for the trainer to certify the trainee in the system, or if performance was unsatisfactory, to provide guidance for remediation prior to another attempt.
